Apple announced new AirPods on its website on March 20th, 2019.
Apple has been surprising Apple fans with a sudden release of new iPad Air, iPad mini and iMac this week and Apple announced new AirPods today.
New AirPods that were announced today support hands-free "Hey Siri" and wireless charging. To activate Siri with 1st generation AirPods, you have to double tap either right or left Airpod, but the new AirPods now allow you to simply say "Hey Siri" to ask Siri questions or ask Siri to turn volume up/down. Also, its case is now compatible with Qi wireless charging and you can charge your AirPods' case by just putting it on a wireless charging pad.
1st generation AirPods use W1 chip, but the new AirPods use H1 chip which is more efficient. According to Apple, H1 chip delivers up to 50% more talk time compared to 1st generation AirPods. Also switching between devices is twice faster than 1st generation AirPods.
Along with the release of new AirPods, 1st generation AirPods have been discontinued. Apple sells AirPods with wireless charging case, AirPods with charging case (not compatible with wireless charging) and wireless charging case only.
